Daniel Steenstra Master Potter Biography ISBN 978-0-473-56631-9
Today would have been Daniel Steenstra's Birthday!
As Daniel Steenstra's only son, I have written his biography 'Just a Slip of the Hands' which will be a limited print edition at this stage and has taken almost 3 years to write. It covers his life from growing up in Friesland through to his retirement and traces his family history of 5 generations in Holland at 3 Friesland potteries. The Dutch carving called Snijwerk was a Steenstra invention for which Daniel continued along with making the odd ceramic piggy bank.
For Daniel Steenstra pottery enthusiasts it will not disappoint as it sheds light on other talents Daniel had and contains a personal reflection on his life. As a Dutch immigrant to New Zealand in the 1950's the book highlights the struggles Daniel went through in attempting to retain his culture.
The book comprehensively ties together all the snippets presented in this forum and others. It has been an honour to piece together my Dad's life and delve deeply into our family archives. It is A5, 80 pages long has colour and black and white photos and is spiral bound and is at the printers now.
I am selling the book for $39.95.

Dom I am so pleased that you are publishing this book. Your father - until recently - has been an unsung hero in NZ ceramics, he just got on with the job of creating beautiful pots for his various employers. Every one of his colleagues that I have interviewed spoke of him with great affection and respect.
I so look forward to holding this book in my hands!!!!
