Barry Ball 1280 pottery history
Just noticed in the New Zealand Potter Vol 23/2 Spring 1981 magazine an article about his 1280 pottery.
Around 1977 Barry and his wife moved to Te Kuiti and they ended up employing two full time and two part time workers as what they made was so popular.
Barry would make the pieces from terracotta and bisqued then the women scratch out their designs through a white glaze, then they are painted.
One of the workers was Hoa a Vietnamese refugee, who even though she had no previous experience, ended up a very skilful painter.
This ware is fired to 1030c and tiles and plates and other flat ware was made too.
