That is interesting history Oakpot. And also interesting that so many firms used ashtrays as promotional giveaways too!

During the 1960's Royal Oak Pottery Ltd acted as a wholesale distributor of Crown Lynn Matt Art Whiteware. Note the then wholesale prices.

My word those vases seem so cheap, but I guess it's all relative .... somehow.
This photo must be from around the time of changing to decimal currency as the swan has both currencies.

Ev, you can work out the present day equivalent values here:
http://www.rbnz.govt.nz/monetary-policy/inflation-calculator

A dollar in the 4th quarter of 1967 has a purchasing power in the 4th quarter of 2016 of $17.32.

So the Swan cost $54.03 in today's money. The number 643 was $28.58 while the wee 644 works out at $15.24, which sounds about right.

$54.00 for a wedding present (which I have heard is what many swans were) seems to be a reasonable value for a distant relative to spend on the young couple.

The swan would be $54.00 wholesale plus sales tax.
Today it would be $54.00 wholesale plus GST.
As a guide the swan would now be $108.00 retail ie in the shop
