Waltzing Matilda mug (sold)
I hope I didn't inconvenience anyone by bidding on the Diana Waltzing Matilda mug that just sold.

I jumped on it as soon as Hamish posted it as I knew what it was and what they are worth in Aussie, especially with a working mechanism like on this one, but I changed my mind pretty quickly as frankly if it is an example of Mirek Smisek's work I don't think it is a good one.
The quality of painting on these mugs varies quite a bit and I don't like this one. If they were made in limited numbers (well at least for a short period) and Smisek designed the colour scheme as is claimed (on the Powerhouse site I think) then why are there so many different versions of the colour scheme?
I was pleased to be outbid and note that while there was a bit of an auction that the final bid of $59 is not very high compared to recorded sale prices.
Even if I saw one painted in a way that I liked I'd still be reluctant to buy now until someone could explain why the mugs differ so.
