Flaire' Pottery

This pottery made heaps of vases and at last I found one that didn't cost the earth.  
There is just a sticker to show who made it, which would be easily lost when washing the vase.  The piece is extremely thin, which would be a tell tale signature of the maker I feel.

I love this vase. 24.5 cm high. It is decorated in a matt finish. Looks like paint rather than glaze, but I am not sure. Somewhere I have a pic of another one by the same maker; it was very ho-hum so I just snapped a pic on my phone.

The glaze is very unusual as it has texture.
I want to use the word 'flocking' but I don't really know if it is that or not ....?

Hmm flocking.. I am not conversant with the finer terminology for glazes. Hopefully someone will know. Meanwhile here is my other pic, some carefully graduated spraying of colour but it didn't rock my boat so I left it in the shop. Both Flaire vases I have seen have these black felt spots on the base.

I was listing this wee statue of a heron today, (I just have to clear out some of my pottery so I have room for my CL ) and realised I have not shared it. It is 195mm high, has a very matt finish and has a chocolate and copper spray on the wings, reminds me a little of Salisbury.

Hi, I have just purchased these two figurenes from a local op shop. I was drawn to them because they are so unusual. I have searched the net and found your forum post and was wondering if you are able to tell me anything about them. They are quite large standing about 450mm in height. They have the same sticker Flaire and felt pads on the bottom. Would really appreciate some insight into their origins.

Wow that's very unusual and most impressive. I haven't seen it before.
We haven't found any info regarding this pottery ... yet, but the pots they made give a good indication that they knew what they were doing and they come across as very professional.

Would it be worthwhile me posting it to some other topics on the forum to see if anyone else has come across it? Or would that post cover that. Sorry I am quite new to forums and not sure how it works.

That heron must be a stock blank - you see them with all sorts of decorations with various decorator's stickers. The interesting human figurines I have never seen before. I am not sure whether Flaire made any of their own castware or whether they decoratoed blanks made by others.

Was at the Mum in laws yesterday and she wanted help moving a few things around on her wall.
Anyway...I lifted this down and saw it had its sticker " Flaire New Zealand "
The texture felted odd...rather like fabric with a rough feel to it.
Not my style but I thought I'd add to the thread.

The Herons are seen on a regular basis, but I haven't seen the swan thing before :O

These must be related to De' Arn pottery as we have the same heron on the site with a De' Arn sticker.

I'm fairly certain that Hemara Hemara did the modelling work for these shapes as I have photos of similar pieces that he modelled that he had at home.

I went to the research library to check out old Yellow Pages last week, specifically looking for Flaire' or De' Arn, but didn't find either up until 1997.  I will go back and continue the search as this is really bugging me.

I think that heron was a stock shape - I have seen a lot over the years, probably not limited to Flaire and De'Arn.  

Ev I love your terminology 'that swan thing' so accurately describes the piece!  X

How do we find out if this 'Heron' shape was made by Hemara?
I'm not sure about the term 'a stock shape'.
Do you mean a shape Hemara would have made for more than one pottery?
I know that happened many times.
I'm sure Paul Hemara would know, but I can't find a way to contact him.
Any ideas?
I think that De' Arn, Flaire' and Cera-Rose are connected and made similar shapes.
A trip to the Reference Library hasn't revealed anything yet, but I have to keep going on that thought.

Ev I was thinking this heron could be from one of those suppliers of molds and blanks, decorated by a number of different studios.
