Orzel mustard pots Empty Orzel mustard pots

Post  Maryr Fri 25 Oct - 12:28

A while ago Cameron Brown told us that they made mustard pots 'by the truckload' - so now I am noticing them everywhere. An interesting selection of glazes and yesterday I found one with the label still attached. One of these had a bit of black tar-like goo around the top, I guess it was used to seal them. They're quite small, with that flat unglazed base.

Orzel mustard pots Empty same with corks in

Maryr,
I would not have taken these for Orzel without your sayso.

I've photographed a base. The cast marks are evident there, and in the sides of the pots, making them look more like Royal Oak than any other Orzel item I have identified.

This flat base and lack of marking makes me wonder what else I have missed in the op-shops. There are so many unmarked items.

You may recognise these ones from the Hospice shop. Pretty tame glazes.

A small collection grows. Kat has just given me a fourth.
It matches The glaze of my basket weave Orzel.
No pic as it also matches the one on the right,
in the first photo of this topic.

And grows. One more from Tikipunga. 4 of 5 shown, all different glazes.

Orzel mustard pots Empty a white one

Post  Jeremy Ashford Sun 2 Mar - 11:06

I love these because they must be about the smallest pottery shape around and take up so little room. Like the Royal Oak mugs, they are a great way to get a good set of glazes from a single pottery shape.

And they are consistently cheap: as a result of a delay from temporarily losing it the trademe seller gave me this one for nothing, post included!

It is white, so I assume the glaze is clear. Only one I've seen like this so far.
