Finally found somewhere reputable that does repairs on cameras, as our one would take one or two photos and then say that the battery was flat. New batteries, new memory card didn't fix it and this happened just after the 2 year warranty ran out.......
Anyway the young man was adamant that it was cheaper to buy a new camera than to get our one fixed !!!!! I wasn't having that as it cost $650 a couple of years ago and this isn't peanuts. So I swallowed my pride when he asked for $150 to get it checked out .... *gulps* I asked how much it would cost to replace the camera now and was told it would be around $350 ..... ? I guess I'm too old fashioned to just throw away a camera though! It remains to be seen how much it will cost to fix, that is if they can fix it. It's a Canon, which is a brand we have always used, but this is our first digital Canon. I really miss it and want it fixed asap ....

Ev, when my Cannon played up, it was 2 years out of warranty, but I googled the problem using several different descriptions, and found that the same fault was prevalent in the USA, and it said that although not usual, some of that batch of cameras were sent to Aust or NZ. I contacted them by freephone, and after sticking to my guns re the consumer guarantee act and the info I had found, they agreed it was probable that my camera came from the same batch, and agreed to fix it for free, which they did! Worth a try.

My camera is around 6 years old now I guess, Nikon D80. Sometimes the flash doesnt go when I tell it too. In auto mode mostly. Only 10mp, which seems so small now.....if only you could upgrade the mp!

Arrrrrgh!!!! I Can imagine how you feel Ev but can I suggest that you don't give up on Canon just yet I have used several over the years (film) and currently use a Powershot A460 which I bought about 4 years ago and am more than happy with. Not an SLR but takes very good pics and is compact and relatively simple to use. All the photos I have posted have been taken with it.

ps I see Dick Smith have what looks like the current version of mine for $378.

Glad to hear that you are near to a satisfactory replacement for your dead camera.
