Re: A 38 for the gallery
My word that is small for a handpotted vase!
I will add the measurement for the Gallery.
Thank you!

A mirror image of the #38 in an experimental glaze !!
Looks just the same to me,
but with a rich golden glaze outside, and a lovely aqua inside. I was told that it was an experimental piece, and the previous owner's father worked at Crown Lynn.
Hand etched with 38, the same as the hand potted, but no stamp, only strange numbers. I have seen these before, on items described as experimental.

Re: A 38 for the gallery
Yes it's handpotted and has been lathed to get the exact same shape.
What colour is the clay? The same as your other 38 ... or a different colour?

Re: A 38 for the gallery
The clay on the glazed one is more a yellow/pale pink, just like the base in the photo.

Re: A 38 for the gallery
Hmmmm food for thought ... as the auction did have Stoneware in the heading.
I think of stoneware clay as having a high vitrification temperature ... around 1300'.
The pinky/yellow colour tells me that there is a fair bit of iron in the clay ....
so not technically stoneware to my way of thinking, which is more often than not a grey colour when vitrified.
Crown Lynn however may have considered 1200' + as stoneware temps ??
Those cadet notes that were on TM a while ago would possibly give an indication ..
