Would it be salt-glazed by any chance?
Are there any makers marks or squiggles anywhere?

Remember those mushroom pottery things that were in the ground above the septic tanks long ago...... they were always salt-glazed..... does that help?

Only name I can come up with is Mapua Ware.
This was made by Waimea Pottery Richmond, Nelson.
Jack Laird ran Waimea Pottery.
I can't find a decent pic to put a link up to, but I've seen several pieces of Mapua lately
and I always think of your keg.

I think this keg belongs to a different stable - not convinced it is Mapua. I will try to find a link tomorrow.

Neither of the items posted in this thread ring any bells for me I’m sorry. I worked at Waimea Pottery/Richmond Pottery & Ceramics from 1976-1984.

Thanks Bazza, I will move this topic into the Is This New Zealand Pottery, to be identified.
It was the sprayed on iron oxide that made me think it was Mapua, but of course others would have used that technique and even I did too!
