This link is to Sydney's Pates Potteries version of a similar shape http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=128378
The measurements may rule it out and the shape number was 992 or G 992 under Pates' Regent label. Photos of the shape appear in 1956 Pates catalogues reproduced in "The People's Potteries"

Wow thank you Tony, as that looks like a match!
Though the numbers are different, perhaps they made these in other sizes?
I admire the way that the colours have be tastefully executed.
Marl will have to measure hers to see if there is any differences.

Have done the measurements, it is smaller than the one shown, 145mmH,115mmW 69mm D. It certainly is the same shape though, doesn't have the gold detail mentioned, but does have gold around the rim. I love the colours on it, and the glaze gives it an irridescent glow. Thanks Tony and Ev.Cheers, marl

Pates also made them with ceramic flowers applied around the base. In a history of Pates I read it said that that they'd do scouting visits to retailers to see what other manufacturers were making and would imitates successful shapes and glazes.

Pates Potteries clog ashtray
Pates Potteries clog ashtray
As I am not familiar with the 0-199 Ambrico shapes I picked up this clog from the Tikipunga Market yesterday morning.
about four inches long, unmarked for maker
A bit of googling tells me this was probably made in the 1940s by Pates Potteries in Sydney. https://reretro.wordpress.com/tag/pates-pottery/
