Having the word British on the backstamp makes me think that it comes from the 1950 - 1960 era when Crown Lynn were trying to win over the local market ....?

Is the plate anything like any of the other oldies that you have narna?
Width..... depth.... thickness .... weight ..... shape .... ???
The only tableware that I have come across that 'feels' similar to Crown Lynn
is Johnsons from Australia and it is always marked as such .... just a thought.

Reflecting on this backstamp.... we really need three different sources to identify it as Crown Lynn.
We need more substance than my hunch and narna's gut feeling.
I will take it out of the Backstamps Gallery for now, until further info comes to hand.
I recognised the plate style and shape immediately as Crown Lynn, but that's not enough really
and as I don't have it I can't compare it to other old plates that they made!

Welcome to the Forum shelza
There have been no further developements regarding this backstamp ....
The ware is lovely and looks old, so well done for getting hold of some!
I'm still inclined to the Crown Lynn way of thinking - but we need more than that to be sure

Amazing, next on my list of pictures to post was.........gold fleur british, and here is some more. I have one pudding bowl as pictured, sorry it is a little blurry. I got it from the same place as my calypso green plate. Always considered it CL as it has the right feel.

Re: Gold Fleur British ..... is this a Crown Lynn Backstamp?
I think that the 'Crown Lynn feel' and the 'Crown Lynn finish' are important in identifying their crockery as it does have that special highly fired feel .... and the finish on the base is always the same .... I can skim down a big pile of plates and pick out the Crown Lynn with my eyes first ... sometimes Johnson Bros trip me up as they used the same thickness for plates, but they always have their stamp on the base
Re: Gold Fleur British ..... is this a Crown Lynn Backstamp?
Me too Ev. I can usually spot the CL even if there is no mark on the back, and my son reckons I could spot Temuka pottery from as far as the moon!
When I bought a bunch of homestyle side plates a while back I discovered that one of them had a Johnsons backstamp. to look at from a distance you would swear it was the same as the others but the glaze felt different and the slightly different shape meant that it did not "sit" in the pile with the others neatly. I think I threw it out in the end!

Val Monk has confirmed that this backstamp is Crown Lynn, so now it can go into the Backstamps Gallery.
