Large Mug/Tankard SC Stamp Mark.
Hi All! I have just acquired this large mug/tankard and was wondering if it's by NZ potter Stephen Carter, I'm in Cornwall UK, cheers Ernest.
Carter, Stephen, active 1960s-2000s
English born, New Zealand potter based in Nelson. Trained with Harry and May Davis in Cornwall and returned with them when they emigrated to New Zealand. He helped the Davis family set up their Crewenna Pottery, and then worked at Hanmer Pottery and Waimea Pottery in the early 1970s. In 1974 he and his wife Zoe set up their own pottery in Tahunanui, Nelson.

It is a fantastic piece knowing if it's his, and with the Crowan Pottery Cornwall history the pottery was about 6 miles down the road me. Steve trained alongside Harry & May before he moved to NZ to help start the Crewenna Pottery with H&M CP, your probably very aware of this info, thanks Ernest.

Would this pot be from Hanmer Pottery, Waimea Pottery in the early 1970s. Or from 1974 Steven and wife Zoe's own pottery in Tahunanui, Nelson.
Re: Large Mug/Tankard SC Stamp Mark.
Hanmer and Waimea have their own stamps and marks, so I would say this is from their own pottery crowanman.

Was the pottery under there own name or the town or something else if known, cheers Ernest.
Re: Large Mug/Tankard SC Stamp Mark.
Most potteries went under the name of the potter, unless they employed others like Waimea and Hanmer etc.
